Counting the Omer is one of the Moadim, one of the Appointed Times set by God in the Bible as “a statute forever.” It is a seven week long wait time, in which He commanded us to count the days. Instead of a countdown, it is a count up 50 days long. When Adonai tells us to count these days, He has a reason. If someone says, “I’m counting the days,” it usually means they are looking forward to something really awesome. They might be counting the days until graduation or until they change jobs or maybe retirement or a vacation, or better yet, until their wedding or the arrival of a new baby! So there must be something awesome that God has us counting towards; something amazing to expect.
In the Bible, the counting was towards something supernaturally and spiritually spectacular twice. Let’s study those two events, find out how they are connected, and see what we can anticipate for our own lives as we do the counting this year.
